Legal protection of caves
During the past 14 years, the PCMM has worked in the conservation of caves under different modalities. Currently we are colaborating with the three levels of the government, different institution and rural communities in order to Project the caves and th especies that inhabit them. Many of the caves are being studied to know their conservation needs and propose protection plans adequated to these needs. Some of the caves have already been protected unde the Sanctuary category, while others follow the Management Units scheme (UMA). Some of the largest bat populations we handle, counts with 5,000 long nosed bats (Leptonycteris nivalis), while other has 300,000 individuals of L. yerbabuenae. But the largest is about 2 million individuals of insecto feeders (Tadarida brasiliensis).

Management and interpreting plans
The PCMM has prepared Management plans for the priority caves all over the country, as well as justification Studies for the creation of new Natural Protected Areas, that are presented to the government. We have developed Management plans that include the designo of interpretative paths and capacity building with guides so they become the carriers of the bat conservation message, by delivering it to the people that visit the caves.

Authorities support
Before we deliver our educational program, we approach the local authorities in order to present the team, establish trust and receive the proper permits. This aspecto has been fundamental to avoid conflicts in our practice. The support from the authorities has allowed us to work smoothly in environments that can be dangerous at some point.
